Have you dreamed of living on Lake Murray? Is 2015 going to be the year you make that move?
Lake Murray was named after William S. Murray, who was an engineer involved in the creation and design of the lake and the Dreher Shoals Dam aka "The Dam". It took over 3 years and 20 million dollars to build the 1 and a half mile dam. About a dozen communities had to be abandoned to make room for the lake including Lorick's Ferry, Holly's Ferry, Boyleston, Savilla, Leaphart, Cantsville, Wessinger, Selwood, Derrick and Pine Ridge. Over 100,000 acres of land was purchase for the building of the dam and the lake. The land sold between $15 and $45 an acre. What a bargain!!!! There are several graveyards that are still under the lake that the families decided not to move. You can also find out about several other interesting things at the bottom of the lake at the Lake Murray Museum. Come see what all Lake Murray has to offer such as Marinas and dining on the lake.
