Columbia's 30th Annual Greek Festival. Your chance to be Greek for a week starts tomorrow Thursday, September 15th. The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral invites you to come enjoy the Greek music, atmosphere, food, drink and learn about Greek culture. Located at 1931 Sumter Street, downtown Columbia, admission is free. The festival runs Thursday through Saturday from 10 am to 10 pm, and Sunday from 12 pm to 8 pm. Bring the whole family out, there is something for everyone to enjoy! There will be church tours and a cultural exhibit every hour where you can learn about Greek culture, history and about modern Greece. Special features include performances of The Tortoise and The Hare by Columbia Marionette Theater, live music by the Nick Trivelas Band and the Aegean Duo, and the Ancient Warriors of Greece. There will be plenty of Greek folk dancing beginning Friday evening and all through the weekend. Come learn how to plaka! There will be plenty of vendors on hand so you can shop for all kinds of Greek treasures like art, ceramics, jewelry, icons, apparel, souvenirs, music, and much, much more. And let's not forget about the food! The kitchen will be serving delicious Greek cuisine including broiled chicken, pastitsio, keftedes, and roast lamb. And pastries from koulourakia to baklava. A la carte items include yummy gyros, souvlaki and calamari. Wash it down with some Greek coffee or stop by a tavern for Greek wine or beer. You'll really miss out if you don't come join in on the festivities. Come out and be Greek for the week!
