Yes! Paint colors really do affect the sale of your home! Think of it this way. First impressions are everything, right? While your favorite color might be a bright teal; some potential buyers for your home may really, really, really dislike that color. What does that mean for you when you're trying to sell? Well, it could mean that your home may take a significantly longer time to sell, and you may not even get your full asking price. When it comes to selling your home quickly and for as close to the asking price as possible, paint colors are just as important as a tastefully staged home, appliances, curb appeal, and pricing your home right (not to mention having a great real estate agent)!
Okay, so what paint colors should we choose? The most common answer to this question is neutrals. However, does that mean you should paint your whole home a bland beige? Absolutely not! Think of a neutral color palette with complimentary colors. Beige, tan, and grey are the most popular neutrals, and often work well for larger spaces like family rooms. Bathrooms look great in muted greens or blues depending on tile colors and fixture finishes. Grey, beige, green, or blue works well for bedrooms! Try to stick with neutral shades, stay away from really dark or brighter shades of those colors.
If you feel like you may not have the best eye for color, try enlisting the help of Pinterest or the Paint Experts at your local Paint Store! Browse home improvement sites online for inspiration (HGTV, etc). Once you have several choices in mind, ask friends or neighbors (and your Real Estate Agent!!) what they think of your choices. A little bit of time, effort and a small investment to spruce up the paint in your home could mean the difference between your home selling quickly and for top dollar versus sitting on the market for a while! It's definitely true that paint colors really do affect the sale of your home!
